Fic recs Was chatting online tonight and went through my links and made up a list of favourite fics for someone there, by no means everything, but I thought you all might enjoy it too, so here it is. All fics are complete unless they have a sequel in progress, so noted.
A Time to Change, by Sansa, SS/HP, R, novel-length. Harry wishes he was never the Boy-Who-Lived and his wish is granted. Now he has to bear the consequences, namely sacrificing everything he has gained in order to save his world. He finds love along the way, but will it be snatched away from him just like everything else? Harry goes back in time. Also here.
The Maddest House, series by busaikko, 42k, RL/SB, AU, illustrated, plotty, NC17. After the events of Halloween 1981, Sirius Black finds himself raising Harry, with the assistance of Remus, in a world where Voldemort never disappears for 11 years.
Finding Himself, by Minisinoo, 320k, NC17, HG/CD, plotty, AU 5th year with parallel canon, novel-length, WiP sequel: Dulce et decorum est ‘The boy who almost died’ has to figure out what it means that he didn’t. Harry’s tumultuous fifth year at Hogwarts is Cedric’s seventh and final. Bound together by a shared trauma survived, both boys fall under Ministry fire and suspicion, and both undergo a ‘deconstruction’ of sorts in the face of that crisis. Who is Cedric Diggory? He must find himself amid rumors of war, the awkwardness of falling in love, and a crippling personal tragedy.

Grim Dawn, by Robin4, 35,567 words, gen, PG13, AU. Prior to Harry’s third year, he leaves the Dursleys, desperate to escape. But before the Knight Bus can stumble upon him, he encounters someone far different, and his world begins to change. Not part of the Unbroken universe.
You Never Know, by stasia, novel-length, AU, RL/SS, h/c. Marauders Era, AU. S is in Gryffindor and R is in Slytherin. R is the one that gets tormented by James, Sirius, Peter, and Severus, until Severus discovers that R is an outcast in his own house, being beaten by Lucius Malfoy.
Altered Destinies, by DobbyElfLord, 284,212 words, gen with HP/OFC, time-travel, WiP sequel: Balancing Destinies. Harry has defeated Voldemort, but it was a costly victory. Aberforth Dumbledore presents a plan to go back and kill the infant Riddle, but Harry will have to stay there 10 years.
Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, by Tegdoh, 1,900 words, gen-ish with non-explicit RL/NT het. When [the Tonks] witness firsthand the prejudices to which Remus is subject, concerns about the life Tonks has chosen surface.
Snape Out of It, by Flittermouse (~flam), crackfic, R, SS/HG. Hermione discovers what Snape keeps hidden under an oily rag in his dungeons.
Blood Will Out, by ladybracknell, gen (Harry, Dudley, Ron). Post-DH: Whilst in pursuit of a suspect, Harry comes face to face with his past.
Spot the Difference, by Indigo Ziona, 2,410 words, AU, time-travel, humour. Hermione wakes up to a perfect day, with a suspicious feeling that something's missing. Involves a Time-Turner, an odd dream, and Snape in green.
Brave New World, by theartresm, novel-length series, SS/OFC, gen-with-het-scenes, AU after GoF. When Miranda Hunter's Muggleborn nephew receives his first Hogwarts letter, Albus Dumbledore offers Miranda the Muggle Studies position. BNW explores how a Muggle might view and adjust to life in the Wizarding World.
Anagrams, by Melyanna, 2,450 words, written pre-OotP, gen, G. On a Christmas Eve during World War II, Cornelius Fudge witnesses an ordinary children's game and hears a name which will haunt his career.
Something Higher on the List, by Alphard, 1,951 words, RL/SS A short account of Remus’ first day at Hogwarts. Large amounts of foreshadow, irony and, for some reason, Severus Snape. Focuses mainly on the train journey and the Sorting Ceremony.
